Joan (Whitesell) Brown

Carolyn “Joan” Whitesell Brown, 80, of Archdale, passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at her home.

Born May 5, 1942, in Guilford County, she was a daughter of the late Robert Carl Whitesell and the late Effie Clark Whitesell. Joan retired as a manager of the Kroger deli and was a member of Pilot View Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son, T.L. Clary and wife Becky of Greensboro; daughter, Kelly Clary of Greensboro; stepson, Bobby Underwood and wife Tesa of Mebane; stepdaughters, Sandra Southard-Bottoms and husband Glenn of Pinnacle, and Wendy Underwood of King; foster children, Scott Whitesell of Greensboro, and Jeff Whitesell of New York; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; special friends, Debra Hinson, and Kathryn Johnson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by partner, Jessie Underwood; sisters, Virginia Howell, Doris Sell, and Betty Whitesell.

Memorial services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 21, 2023, at the Archdale Chapel of Wright Funerals-Cremations with Reverend Ricky Spencer officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service.
