Jerry Peace

Jerome Lee “Jerry” Peace of Denton, NC, 78, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at the Hinkle Hospice House of Davidson County in Lexington, NC. With his daughter holding his hand, he was surrounded by the presence and love of family.

Jerry's life, marked by achievement and camaraderie, began on February 2, 1945, when he was born to Joe Sr. and Lyde (Lackey) Peace in Thomasville, NC. A standout student and multi-sport athlete, he graduated in 1963 from Thomasville Senior High School, leaving quite a mark on the basketball court. His pursuit of knowledge led him to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he earned a degree in Business Administration, and later, to law school, where he obtained his Juris Doctor (JD) degree. Jerry was not only a dedicated student but also a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and served in the Army National Guard.

Jerry began his career as an Assistant District Attorney in the Davidson County district attorney's office and later established a private law practice in Thomasville, a commitment that endured throughout his lifetime.

Beyond the courtroom, Jerry found joy in fishing, hunting, and cherished moments with loved ones. A steadfast friend, he nurtured enduring friendships right up until his final days as he did his very best to make sure that everyone received their annual Christmas gifts. Active in the Thomasville Buck Club, Denton Amvets Post 240, and a member of the NC Bar Association until the end, Jerry's contributions to his friends, family, and community were significant.

Jerry is survived by the love of his life for 45 years, Jenny "Lucy" Fowler. In their shared joy, they embraced her daughter Tina Chamberlin and granddaughter Lizzie Chamberlin of Denton. Also mourning his loss is his only child, daughter Jennifer Peace Moore (Scott) of High Point. With former wife Jeanne Farris Hackman, he was blessed with two cherished grandsons, Maddox Joseph and Tanner Alexander Moore, both students at UNCC and ECU, respectively. Jerry  found joy and pride in the role of grandfather, embracing the boundless energy and laughter that Maddox, Tanner, and Lizzie brought. Jerry is also remembered by his surviving siblings: brother Joe Peace Jr. (Judy), sisters Linda Young, and Nancy Reece, all of Thomasville, along with several nieces and nephews. He was devoted to his, and Lucy’s, family in a very special and loyal way.  He will be missed immensely, and a significant void will now exist for many.

A private gathering to celebrate the lives of Jerry and his brother-in-law, Herb Young, is being planned for family and close friends in the coming weeks.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Hospice of Davidson County.

Wright Funerals-Cremations, High Point is in charge of arrangements.
