High Point

Reverend Jerry Jay Juren, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and man of God, died Oct 30th, 2016 in Pennybyrn at Maryfield.  Visitation will be held at Christ United Methodist Church in High Point, NC from 1:00-2:15PM Saturday, November 5, 2016. The Celebration of Life service will be held immediately afterward at 2:30PM in the sanctuary with Reverends Matt Farabow and Glenn Myers officiating.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the memorial fund at Christ UMC, 1300 N. University Pkwy, High Point, NC 27262.

Jerry, 81, was born Nov 26, 1934 in Pitt County, NC.  He was the only child born to Mary Foy Johnson and Gerald Juren, who preceded him in death, as well as his stepfather Joseph Edgar King.  He joined the NC National Guard in High School and served for a total of six years.

In 1954 he married the love of his life, Sara Ann Martin Juren, whom he met at Oakview UMC while attending High Point College.  He went on to attend Louisburg College and received his undergraduate degree from Atlantic Christian College and his Master of Divinity degree from Duke University.  He pastored 17 churches over a span of 42 years of service with the North Carolina Conference of The United Methodist Church.  His 13 appointments were in the following cities:   Pine Level; Eureka; Timberlake; Durham; Council; Pembroke (where he also served as Campus Minister at Pembroke State University); Mt. Olive; Mt. Gilead; Fuquay-Varina; Henderson; and Roanoke Rapids.   After retiring to High Point, NC he became Minister to Older Adults at Christ UMC before taking cold weather residence in Riverview, FL where he was involved at St. Andrews UMC.

Jerry and Ann raised their four children under the umbrella of the love of God and the loving congregations of the churches they served. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Leah Denise Helms (Gary) of Nashville, NC, son Joel Brent Juren (Libby) of Riverview, FL, son Jay Timothy Juren (Jennifer) of Fayetteville, GA, and daughter Rachel Ann Juren (Robin Leftwich) of High Point, NC.  He is also survived by nine grandchildren; Sara Helms Schaefer, Krystal Juren Denton, Joel Matthew Juren, Hillary Helms Fernandez, Marion Juren Davila, Ann Christian Juren, Kimberly Juren McCall, Jennifer Hope Britt Juren, Kaitlyn Elisabeth Juren, and four great-grandchildren;  Sophia Grace Juren, Asher Joel Juren, Andrew Robert Denton, Jr, and Eden Claire Schaefer.
