Jennifer A. Hocott

On the morning of April 8, 2023, Jennifer Ann Hocott, formerly of Belleville, Illinois, passed away at the Summerstone Health & Rehabilitation Center in Kernersville, North Carolina from complications of rheumatoid arthritis, an illness with which she battled for decades. Jennifer was 62 years old.

Jennifer was born on November 15, 1960, in St. Louis, Missouri to Madeleine and Phillip Hocott. She was their first child.

As a child, Jennifer was very energetic, creative, fun-loving, and family-oriented. She played for the volleyball team at Whiteside Elementary School and later for the tennis team at Belleville East High School; she also enjoyed time spent with family and friends.

As a young woman, Jennifer became a staunch advocate for animal welfare and developed a passion for politics. As an undergraduate student, Jennifer studied criminology and paralegal studies.

Jennifer was blessed with a talented, creative side and expressed those talents by making beautiful gifts for her loved ones. She adored her siblings’ children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed watching movies and spending time with her cats.

Jennifer will be remembered for her inspirational optimism in the face of a protracted illness, her genuine kindness to others, her sense of humor, her occasional fieriness, not to mention her unforgettable smile. She will be missed but she holds a place eternally in the hearts of those who dearly loved her.

Jennifer was preceded in death by her mother, Madeleine Alves, and her nephew, Alexander Groce.

Jennifer is survived by her father, Phillip Hocott, and her stepmother, Jolene Hocott; her sisters, Stephanie Groce, Heather Conklin, and Danielle Jackson; her brothers-in-law, Jeff Conklin and Mike Jackson; her stepbrothers, Kevin Skeith and Brian Skeith; her nephews, Geoffrey Conklin, Will Jackson and Jake Jackson; her nieces, Zoe Conklin and Nadan Groce; her great-nephew, Daniel Hensley; her great-niece, Madeleine Hensley; as well as her aunt and many cousins.
