Jane Marie (Holloway) Canham

Jane Marie Holloway Canham, 72, of Sophia, passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at New Hanover Medical Center.

Born December 8, 1951, in Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Maynard Holloway, Jr. and the late Marian Bryant Lowe, the mother she dearly loved. She grew up with 5 brothers and had no problem taking care of herself. Quick-witted and tough, she never backed away from anything.

She graduated from Trinity High School and a few years later became a mother. Jane loved being a mother more than anything in the world. She loved it so much that she did it 2 more times. Whether it was playing video games with her daughter or eating dinner with her boys, she lived for those brief moments of bliss with the children she was so very proud of. She raised 3 kids and was proud of the lives they had made for themselves. Proud of the families they had and proud to be a part of the many great things they had done. She loved her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren relentlessly. Always happy to see or talk to them and always put aside what she was doing to make time for them knowing how precious that time was.

Jane loved her husband as well, unconditionally and completely. She went out of her way to provide a welcoming home to lay his burdens and recover from the stresses of life. She willingly played the roles of confidant, therapist, caretaker, office assistant, and wife tirelessly and without complaint or expectation of reward. Jane knew her rewards laid in the happiness and safety of her family.

Jane loved to travel with her family. Trips to Niagara Falls or to see the Ark in Kentucky even the yearly trips to the mountains to be with her husband at the pastors retreat, but Jane's favorite place was at the beach. Fishing and spending time with her family while she was there was what she wanted to do more than anything. She was there every chance she got and she was there when she left this world.

Jane also loved her church. She loved her church family. The women's group, the children, the other members that she had the joy of interacting with weekly. The ones that she spent hours on the phone with or completing church projects with, always giving her best no matter the cost to herself and never complaining.

Jane loved her dogs. Her fur babies meant the world to her and she took them everywhere. If ever there was a spoiled dog, it lived at Jane's house.

Jane did all these things all the while struggling with her many medical issues. Issues that taxed her body, issues that her faith in God had helped her manage the emotional parts of, issues that ultimately ended her suffering and sent her home to be with her brothers, her mother and her lord Jesus Christ.

If you knew Jane at all you'd know she wouldn't have wanted such a big deal to be made about her but you'd also know she was worth every bit of it. There's no way to tell anyone about Jane without making it into a big deal.

She is survived by her husband of thirty-seven years, Rev. Billy Wayne Canham of the home, sons, William Paul Canham (Tonya) of Trinity and Charles Edward “Chuck” Canham (Amanda) of Trinity; daughter, Tosha Marie Conley (Jay) of Hillard, Ohio; brothers, Don Holloway (Ann) of Florida and Randy Holloway of Sophia; grandchildren, Alex Canham, Matthew Canham, Sadie Miles, Chloe Conley, Marshall Canham, Jayce Conley, Kristopher Deaton. and Jamison Canham; and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Jeff Holloway, Mike Holloway, and Maynard Holloway.
