James Truett Sledge (Jim), 84, of High Point died January 14, 2016 of alzheimers. Throughout his battle with the disease for many years he never totally forgot those most precious in his life. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather of seven.
Survivors include his wife, Sandee, of 27 years, daughters Kelly Birchell (Sanford, FL) & Amy Sledge (Hong Kong) and sons Jeff Sledge & wife Melissa and Brad Moorefield and wife Brandy of Thomasville, NC as well as a sister, Barbara Shaw and husband Ron of Arlington Texas.
Born in Texas in 1931, to Stella & Truett Sledge, Jim worked his way up corporate management living in Dallas, Connecticut, Illinois, and finally settling in High Point where he retired from Hatteras Yachts. After moving to High Point, he received his MBA from Wake Forest University.
Jim put his heart and soul into building Covenant Church United Methodist where he was a charter member and served as chairman of the building team when the original building was constructed in 1989. Over the years he held positions of finance chair, stewardship chair, and served many years as a delegate to the Western Carolina Conference.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, January 24 at Covenant Church United Methodist at 3:00PM with Dr. Kyles Wallace, Dr. Mark Key, and Rev. Michelle Foster officiating. Visitation with the family will be held at the church 1 hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Covenant Church, 1526 Skeet Club Drive, High Point, NC 27265.
