James "Jim" Odell Johnson

James "Jim" Odell Johnson, 87, of Sophia, passed away, Friday, June 5, 2024, at his home.

He was born Tuesday, June 16, 1936, in Surry County, NC to the late Floyd Richard Johnson and the late Bessie Mae Brendle Johnson.

Jim was a beloved people person who had a dedicated career with Drexel Furniture, where his work and friendly demeanor left a lasting impression. After retiring, Jim found joy in taxidermy, a craft he perfected over the years. His green thumb was evident in his flourishing garden. Jim was an outdoorsman, spending time fishing, hunting, and enjoying God’s creation.

A devout man, Jim loved the Lord with all his heart and was a dedicated member of Sophia Baptist Church. His faith guided him throughout his life, bringing comfort and strength to those around him. Jim cherished his family above all, sharing a deep bond with his beloved wife, Darlene, to whom he married February 25, 1955; together they spent 69 wonderful years. He loved his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Jim’s legacy of faith and love for life will be remembered fondly by those whom his life impacted.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Johnny Johnson, Garland Johnson and Glenn Johnson, as well as his sister Betty Moore.

Left to cherish his memory: his wife, Darlene Collins Johnson; son, Randy Johnson and fiancé Debra Jernigan; daughter, Rhonda Wimbley; grandson, Phillip Johnson and great grandchildren, Cassidy Johnson and Elijah Johnson.

The family will host a private memorial service at their home.

Wright Funerals-Cremations, Archdale, is assisting the family.
