It is with deep sorrow we share that on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, James Willie McInnis departed his earthly vessel at 83 years of age.
He was a resident of High Point, North Carolina for many years, coming to the city at ayoung age from Maxton, North Carolina where he was born to Evans and Beatrice McInnis.
James was a mover and a shaker. At Guilford Veneer, he trained many people in the art processing and grading veneer. At Interforrest Incorported from where he retired, he perfected the art of international sales of veneer. After retirement, he continued to keep it moving by working at Enterprise Rental Cars and bargaining and procuring items to be resold at the flea market in Rockingham, North Carolina. All of the above offered him the opportunity to do what he loved: meet and talk to people from all walks of life.
James is survived by a host of family and friends notably his life companion, Sylvia McInnis of High Point, North Carolina; daughter, Kelsie McInnis Dockery, of High Point, North Carolina; granddaughter, Tremaine McInnis of Charlotte, North Carolina; great- granddaughter, Raven Roberson, of Charlotte, North Carolina; great-grandson, Isaiah McInnis, of Greensboro, North Carolina; brothers Thomas (Bessie) McInnis; Earl (Barbara) McInnis; Thelmoth (Roberta) McInnis, all of High Point, North Carolina; Sisters Minnie Lou Reed of Baltimore, Maryland; Lizzie (Earl) Braswell of High Point, North Carolina; and Flora McInnis, of Winston Salem, North Carolina.
James was preceded in death by his parents Evans and Beatrice McInnis; son Michael Rutherford, and sisters Mary Frances McInnis and Alice Hairiston.
James will always be remembered and loved for his friendly persona and outgoing personality. He never met a stranger and was known to strike up a conversation with almost anyone, always sharing his infectious smile and laugh.
The Celebration of Life Services for James will be held Sunday, March 15, 2026, with visitation with the family from 2:30 pm until 3 pm at St. Stephen AME Zion Church at 1012 Leonard Avenue in High Point, North Carolina.
