Gil Williams

Thurston Gilbert “Gil” Williams, 72, of Archdale, passed away Sunday, December 8, 2024, at his home.

Born December 1, 1952, he was a son of the late Thurston Gates Williams and the late Edna Jean Frick. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Claudia Huddleston. On December 4, 1970, he married the former Glenda Mills and they recently celebrated 54 years as a married couple.

Left to cherish his memory: his wife, Glenda Williams of the home; sons, Thurston Williams, Jr (Sheila) of Archdale and Matthew Williams (Jennifer) of Hudson; daughter, April McManus (Chad) of Archdale; grandchildren, Gil III (Sharni), Phil (Caroline), Sarah (Anthony), Maddie, Nathan, Abraham, Abbie, Eric, and Will; great grandchildren, Aria and Gabriel. He was also survived by his brother Ted Williams (Priscilla) and his brother-in-law, Marvin Huddleston.

Gil’s Love Language was Acts of Service, and he filled the days and hours that he wasn’t working with family birthday parties, road trips, working on family members’ homes, and joining in milestone celebrations. Loyalty to his wife and family was so important to him. He was always excited to talk about his children and grandchildren to anyone who was willing to listen. Humor and friendly kidding was so much a part of who he was. He would grasp onto funny sounding words or unusual turns of phrase. He was good to embrace bits of joy within individual moments and share this infectious enthusiasm with his family. He was the rock who kept the oil changed in family cars, fixed the plumbing in their houses, walked their dogs, and called regularly when family members were struggling through big decisions and changes in their lives. When his children would call him to see how he was doing, he would always say something disparaging about himself followed by “But your mama is good to me.” Gil and Glenda enjoyed a close bond and navigated life challenges together. His country and his faith in Christ were guiding forces in his life, and he shared his love of both with his family. The family would appreciate your prayers as they undertake a life without him.

Graveside service will be 2:30PM Friday, December 13, 2024, at Randolph Memorial Park with his son, Matthew Williams, officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service.
