Geneva Henson Patterson

Geneva Henson Patterson, age 93, passed away on Monday, December 15, 2025, in Kernersville, North Carolina, at Summerstone Nursing and Rehab. Geneva was born in Wolford, Virginia, to Henry and Cosby Henson and spent the majority of her adult life in High Point, where she built a life centered on faith, family, and service.

She married Bill Patterson on October 9, 1953, and together they shared many years devoted to their home, community, and church. Geneva was a caring, devoted, and deeply faithful woman – strong, loyal, and tireless – whose generosity touched everyone who knew her.

For more than three decades, Geneva lovingly cared for babies and toddlers at Wesleyan Christian Academy, a role that perfectly reflected her nurturing spirit. Even after retiring in her early eighties, she continued serving as a substitute well into her late eighties, unable to imagine slowing down while she was still able to help. At home, she was known for keeping an exceptionally clean house, a reflection of the pride and care she took in everything she did. She was also well known for her delicious pound cakes, a gift she shared generously with family, friends, and her church community.

Geneva’s faith was the daily guide of her life. A member of Lebanon United Methodist Church for more than seventy years, she was deeply devoted to her church family and hated missing a Sunday service. She sang in the choir and faithfully participated in church activities for as long as she was able. While her roots were firmly planted in North Carolina, she especially cherished trips to South Carolina during the holidays to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren – visits that brought her immense joy.

She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Lytton; her sister-in-law, Frances Patterson; two grandchildren, Angie Starrett (Holly) and Mandi Price (Jeremy); three great-grandchildren, Grace Floyd, Grady Price, and Grant Price; and many nieces and nephews.

Geneva is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Patterson; her son, Tim Patterson; and all five of her siblings – Thelma, Ed, Homer, Kermit, Clyde, Ruby, and Alfa.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026, from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m., followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. at Lebanon United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation to the Lebanon United Methodist Cemetery Fund. Checks may be made payable to Lebanon Methodist Church with “Cemetery Fund” noted in the memo line and mailed to: Lebanon United Methodist Church 237 Idol Street, High Point, NC 27262.
