Gabriel Swaim

Gabriel Swaim, 47, of Wilmington, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at the Novant Health, New Hanover Medical Center of Wilmington.

Gabriel (Gabe) was born July 4th, 1976 in High Point, NC. He was six years old before he realized the fireworks weren’t for his birthday every year.

In 1985 we moved to Carolina Beach, NC. Gabe loved the beach and was a very good skim boarder.  In High School he was a lifeguard at Fort Fisher during the summer.  He was also a Boy Scout and became a volunteer fireman.

He graduated from Hoggard High School in Wilmington where he played trumpet in the marching and concert band.

After high school he worked in his dad’s paint contracting business and later for his Uncle Dwane’s paint contracting business in High Point, but his primary residence remained near Carolina Beach.

Currently he worked at the Blakeslee Airforce Recreation Center (formally Fort Fisher Air Force Recreation Center) for the Federal Government.

He is survived by his parents, Lanny & Cathy Swaim of Winnabow, NC, a brother, Joshua Swaim of Sandy Creek, NC and a sister, Shannon Nicole Garrett and husband Trent, of Wallburg, NC, plus uncles, aunts, cousins and one niece.

He is also remembered by his love for animals and leaves behind three cats.

Funeral service will be 3:00 PM Sunday, May 19, 2024, in the High Point Chapel of Wright Funerals-Cremations; 1720 Westchester Drive, High Point; with lay ministers Jay Jones of Washington, NC and Larry Pate of Bennettsville, SC officiating.

Burial will follow in the Pleasant Grove Methodist Church Cemetery in Thomasville.

The family will receive friends 2:00-2:45 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
