Felder L. Foster, 83, passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at Atrium Health High Point Medical Center.
Born on September 10, 1941, in Blue Ridge, Georgia, Felder spent his early years in the mountains before moving to Indiana, where he excelled both academically and athletically. A graduate of Jimtown High School in Elkhart, Indiana, Felder was valedictorian of his class and captain of the track and football teams. He graduated from the University of Tennessee, where he met and married the love of his life, Ginger Hunter, on May 23, 1964. They shared 45 years together.
Felder’s professional life was marked by hard work and dedication. He worked in sales with Aramark and Swift Meat Companies before settling in High Point, NC, to raise his family. There, he held leadership roles as plant manager at Triad Fabco and later as a supervisor with Carson Dellosa Publishing Company.
In retirement, he enjoyed traveling, cruises, stock trading, attending his grandchildren’s sporting and special events, playing bingo and rooting for the Tennessee Volunteers. At Shady Grove Methodist Church, he often attended Sunday school and found a sense of community.
Felder was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley Virginia “Ginger” Hunter Foster; his mother and stepfather, Gladys and Carl “Jack” Smith; and his younger brother, James A. Foster.
He is survived by his two sons, Craig Foster (Diana) of Greensboro, NC, and COL (R) Brian Foster of Harrisburg, PA; his four cherished grandchildren, Adam Foster (Sophie), Elizabeth “Ellie” Killackey (Brian), Emily Foster, and John Foster; and his great-grandson, Greyson Foster. He is also survived by his sister, Joan Audrey Phillips of Greensboro, his brother-in-law, Homer “Sonny” Hunter of Kingston, TN, and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.
A celebration of Felder’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Shady Grove Methodist Church, with a visitation to follow the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association in honor of Felder’s memory.
Felder will be remembered as a man who valued his family, his independence, and his financial savvy. Despite challenges with declining health in his later years, his steady presence and generous heart left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
