Edmund Douglas Allred, 87, passed away on June 2, 2026, at the Hospice Home of High Point.
Edmond was born on June 21, 1938, in Greensboro to Leonard and Elizabeth Isley Allred. He grew up Greensboro, and graduated from Grimsley High School. In 1963, Edmund joined the United States Army. He was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, from 1963 to 1965 and the values of discipline and honor he learned there were carried with him throughout his life. After leaving the Army, he pursued his passion for business and helping others. He earned an associate’s degree in business laying the foundation for a lifetime career in retail management. His commitment and integrity in his profession were evident to all who had the pleasure of working with him.
Beyond his career and service, Edmund was a man of many interests that reflected his vibrant spirit. Edmund treasured the moments that he spent with his family. These bonds meant everything to him. His greatest happiness came from spending time with those he loved the most. He was an avid collector and enthusiast of guns, a passion he joyfully shared with his grandsons during memorable afternoons spent shooting together.
His love for westerns was well-known—whether watching the iconic "Gunsmoke" on television or collecting classic western movies, these stories brought him great pleasure. Deeply rooted in faith, Edmund found comfort and strength in reading his Bible daily and was often uplifted by gospel music, alongside classic rock and country tunes that echoed the soundtrack of his life. He found meaning and could relate to the words of "Running Against the Wind," one of his favorite classic rock songs.
Along with his parents, Edmund was preceded in death by his brothers, Leonard Allred and Ronnie Allred
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Cynthia Allred; sons Steve Allred, Chester Allred, and Darrick Allred; daughter, Sandy Staley, five grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
A memorial service to celebrate Edmund's life will be held on Friday, June 12, 2026 in the chapel at Wright Funeral Service in High Point with a visitation for family and friends following the service.
