Douglas Gordon (Doug) Stroud
High Point
Douglas Gordon (Doug) Stroud, 75, of E. Peachtree Dr., passed away Friday, January 29, 2016 after a long fought battle with cancer.
Doug graduated from Ledford High School in 1958. He joined the armed forces in 1959 and after serving a three-year term in the Army, he went to work as an electrician in High Point. Doug joined the IBEW in 1966 and was a faithful member. Traveling all over the country, he had been to all fifty states and made many, many friends. He was loved by everyone he met. Doug had a brilliant mind, memory and a wonderful sense of humor.
Being the oldest of the two sisters, I would go with him to his class reunions, who to Doug and myself were like family, that’s the way people were in the fifty’s. We attended his last reunion on October 17, 2015. A class mate of Doug’s, Lawrence Burton, told me about one of their history classes in which he remembered Mrs. Perry saying, “she would like to fail Doug on one test but never could, because he knew more about history than she did”. His english teacher, Mrs. Clark said “Doug was smart enough to go to West Point”. Doug resided in Capitola, CA and had recently moved back to his home in High Point.
A special thank you to all his wonderful class mates who called and came to visit. Thank you to Jerry and Judy Kelly from West Virginia, Ricky Dale and Bridgett Peterson from Baton Rouge, LA, and Carol from Florida who came to visit. Thank you to all of the IBEW members and their families who called numerous times and sent cards. IBEW members are the most wonderful and caring people I’ve ever known. A very special thank you to Doug Landis from Capitola, CA, Vick Parks from San Leador, CA, “Young Frank” Coty from Island Lake, IL. Also, IBEW members who came and stayed with Doug and took care of him during his illness, so giving of their love and kindness. Doug loved his IBEW family and class mates. A very special thank you to his cousin and long time friend, Bob “Curly” Craver of High Pont.
Doug was a great father, grandfather and uncle. He loved his family and friends and always remembered them at Christmas and birthdays. Always willing to lend a helping hand in time of need and we will always love and miss him.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Ina Stroud of High Point, and son, Ernest Sean of Dallas, TX.
