Doris “Dottie” Gibson of High Point, NC died Friday, October 20, 2023, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, NC. Dottie is survived by her husband of 67 years, Walter “Buddy” Gibson; her son, Scott (Tim Edwards) of Raleigh; her daughter, Lauran Bray (Eddie) of Fayetteville; two grandchildren, Alden Bray and Gibson Bray; her sister Martha Jo Lineberger of Gainesville, Georgia and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Lynde Gibson; and by her mother, Sophie Gunnels.
Dottie was born in Macon, Georgia, and married Buddy when they were both teenagers. Buddy’s career moved the family to Atlanta for many years and ultimately to High Point. Dottie was devoted to raising the children and teaching them all the good southern manners that were so important to her. Although she never worked outside of the home, she took her job as the matriarch of the family with passion.
Dottie was a member of the VSL Sunday School class at Green Street Baptist Church. All the ladies in the class meant a lot to Dottie; especially these last few months as she faced major health challenges.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Dottie on November 4, 2023, from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. in the reception room at Wright Funerals-Cremations, 1720 Westchester Drive, High Point, NC.
In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions be made to the Kate B Reynolds house in Winston-Salem in Dottie’s honor. The family would like to thank everyone at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home for taking good care of Dottie, and them, during this difficult time.
Wright Funerals-Cremations, High Point is in charge of arrangements.
