DonElla Carter of High Point died on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2021 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center with close friends by her side. She was a loyal and loving friend to so many people, and her mother, Ethel Carter of High Point. DonElla had been in declining health for the past year.
She was born in High Point on April 11, 1958, the only child of Ethel and Don Carter. Kentucky Street was the place to be in High Point, especially for young children growing up. Good neighbors became great friends, and her circle would expand from there. DonElla graduated from Central High School, attended N.C. State University and ultimately graduated from the Art Institute of Atlanta with an associate’s degree in fashion merchandising. She was a creative, talented and exciting person to be near with a sharp, quick wit. A fun-loving, dramatic, free spirit with an open mind, DonElla never met a stranger.
She loved art, volunteering service at Maryfield/Pennyburn and especially loved all music. Of the many concerts she attended, a standout memory is of Earth, Wind and Fire concert at the Greensboro Coliseum. She had a keen ear for music and musical trends, most notably by becoming an early Nirvana and Lenny Kravitz fan.
DonElla was predeceased by her father and her beloved Boykin spaniel, Nellie June. Left to cherish her memory are her mother and her many friends. There will be a private funeral service, and a memorial celebration will be announced when pandemic restrictions are lifted.
Special thanks to the Wake Forrest Baptist Trauma Team, especially Nurse Kristen and Audrey Stevens, MD.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Guilford County Animal Shelter.
