Born October 7, 1937, in High Point, he was the son of the late Walter Dickey and the late Lucille Davis Dickey. He was a New York Yankees and Washington Redskins fan.

A loving and gentle husband, father, and grandfather, he is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Gayle Skidmore Dickey of the home; son, Donald Lee Dickey, Jr. of Randleman; daughters, Patricia Lynn Smith and husband Daniel of Virginia, and Rebecca L. Dickey and partner Clifford Dunn of Archdale; grandchildren, Jordan Dickey Smith, and Skyler Dickey Smith; and brother-in-law, Robert Skidmore and wife Carol of High Point.
