Dixie Garner Allen, 86, of Pennybyrn at Maryfield, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, January 5, 2017.
Born April 2, 1930 in High Point, NC to the late Greg Susong Garner and the late Cornelia Jackson Garner. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Austin Lewis Garner. Dixie graduated from High Point High School in 1948 and went on to work for Dr. M.B. Leath. She then married the love of her life, Robert Harrison Allen, Sr. and celebrated sixty-seven years of marriage before her death. She was a member of Life on Lexington (formerly Lexington Ave. Baptist Church) where she received Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord of her life. She served as a Primary Sunday School teacher, Nursery Worker and served on the Hostess Committee for many years. Dixie was a charter member of the High Point Y’s Menette where she served on a number of committees. She was also a charter member of the High Point Gideon’s Auxiliary and held several offices. Dixie was a great supporter and encourager of her husband’s many endeavors. But her greatest joy in life was being a Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother! Her family was her pride and joy. She has attended many ballgames, recitals, church programs and school plays. Dixie loved going to Pawley’s Island, SC with her family and friends and going fishing.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Linda Gleason and husband Keith Gleason, and Robert Allen, Jr. (Rob) and wife Alice Allen; grandchildren, Kevin Gleason and wife Sarah Gleason, Heather Steele and husband Tyler Steele, and Harrison Allen and Katherine Allen; great-grandchildren, Jadyn Gleason, Kyndall Steele and Nolan Steele; sister, Connie Chambers; brother Joe Garner and wife Becky Garner; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be conducted at Green Street Baptist Church, 303 N Rotary Dr., High Point, NC Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Deon Parker of Life on Lexington Church officiating. Entombment will follow in Floral Garden Park Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends prior to the Celebration from 12:00 PM until 1:45 PM.
