Derrick Leonard Jackson, 56, passed away suddenly in Victoria, British Columbia on July 11, 2025.
He left this life surrounded by his family and the love of his life. Derrick was born in Indianapolis, IN on October 28, 1968, to Rick and the late Frankie Jackson. He grew up in Thomasville, NC and graduated from Ledford High School in the Class of 1986. He completed his B.Sc. at UNC Charlotte and continued his chiropractic studies at Life Chiropractic College.
Derrick was a humble, thoughtful, genuinely kind man. He valued most in this life love and family. He was never distracted by worldly pursuits, rather focusing on making every person in his life feel seen, loved, and supported. He was eternally patient and never asked for anything in return. He was quick to laugh and find silly humor in every scenario. He leaves behind a legacy of compassion, devotion, and selflessness.
Derrick was a devoted father, son, grandson, brother, and partner. He was the primary caregiver to his grandparents and mother, tirelessly accommodating their needs later in life. He found great enjoyment becoming an uncle and kickstarting a love for football in the next generation.
Derrick was the best father imaginable. He was a natural caregiver and teacher. He never missed a single football game, dance recital, cross country meet. As a father, he was wholeheartedly invested in raising his children to achieve their dreams, giving them endless support to grow and succeed. He spent the last decade working for his son’s company, doing anything he could to be of service. He watched his children grow into successful adults, and celebrated every victory, big or small.
The true light of his life came from his girlfriend, Debbie. Five years ago, the best chapter of Derrick’s life started. Two childhood friends reunited, as if by destiny from opposite sides of the continent, to find their soulmate. They traveled to places near and far to be together and spent almost every hour apart calling or texting. He experienced so much love and understanding in these years, and his family got to watch him reach his full potential of happiness.
Derrick found much joy in his hobbies. He loved football and watched every game, simultaneously and religiously. He spent countless hours with his son going to Wake Forest football games and practices. He had a passion for photography and captured hundreds of sporting events in the community, leaving behind precious memories for anyone who asked for his skills. He perfectly encapsulated the beauty he found in life from a rose to a sunset to the people he loved. He was taken from this earth too soon, but he will be kept in our hearts, always.
Those who remain to carry on Derrick’s legacy are his son, Josh and Molly (wife) Jackson; daughter Savannah Jackson; girlfriend, Debbie Bulla; father, Rick Jackson; brother, Patrick Jackson; nephews, Wilder and Beau Jackson; cousin/sister, Luna Samuels; uncle, Frank "Bud" Clinard; his beloved pets, Char, Tabitha, and Curly. He is awaited in Heaven by his mother, Frankie Jackson; his grandparents, Harris and Dot Jackson and Frank and Mildred Clinard; his aunts, Anne Honeycutt and Betty Lance; and countless friends and relatives.
A celebration of Derrick’s life will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at 11:00 in the chapel of Wesley Memorial Methodist Church at 1225 Chestnut Dr. in High Point with Reverend Ken Lyon officiating. Following the service will be a reception to welcome all who loved and cherished Derrick.
