David Alverman

David Leroy Alverman, 66, of High Point, passed peacefully on July 3, 2025, at Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington.

David lived life with passion and an infectious personality. He was loving and loyal — a compassionate soul and a fierce competitor, both in and out of the boxing ring. David proudly claimed the Kansas City Golden Gloves boxing championship in 1979, 1980, and 1984. In his 30s, he went on to fight two undefeated professional bouts. Outside the ring, he spent most of his career as a dedicated furniture salesman.

David was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred; father, Rudy; brother, Danny; sister, Jeannie; and uncles, Claud, John, Bob, and Gary; as well as cousins Tammy and Jeff.

He is survived by his nephew Russel, Russel's wife Christy, and their two children, Joshua and Benjamin, along with Benjamin’s wife Nikol. David is also lovingly remembered by close cousins Janiece, John Jr., Kim, Susan, Kelly, Cindy, Marty, aunts Shirley and Barbara, and friends Keith Fields and Terry Moran.

A small gathering of friends and family will be held in both High Point, North Carolina, and Kansas City to celebrate David’s life.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Southgate Baptist Church or Hinkle Hospice House in David’s memory.

Wright Funerals-Cremations, High Point is in charge of arrangements.
