Howard Craig Dobbins signed off on Saturday, February 26 after a full weekend of bike riding with his favorite pals.  His presence is missed tremendously.

Craig was born November 2, 1954, to Edwin Howard and Helen Payne Dobbins and grew up on Payne Ridge in Davidson County.  Craig spent his childhood exploring the woods and walking tobacco fields, always finding an adventure.  “Wildman” was known by many all along his Quality Catering “roach coach” route, a career held for over three decades.  Craig knew his customers well, knowing before they even got to the truck what they wanted to order.  The “roach coach” route created lifelong friendships that still exist to this day.  Craig took his unique work ethic to his next venture, working for Wayne Trademark, where he met his wife, Carol.  With Carol's awesome organizational skills, Craig was able to build a home on Payne Ridge where he could run, bike, and walk on the same land where he spent so much time as a kid.  Craig would often say, “with this place, why would I need to go on vacation?”

Craig shared his life philosophy with his four children.  He taught them to embrace the outdoors, “eye candy” as he called it, and that the journey can often be better than the destination.  Some of his favorite spots include Hanging Rock, Kibler Valley, and Belews Lake.  Craig took his family on many adventures every year for his 4th of July vacation week.  His kids learned about every Civil War battlefield in the Eastern United States and they could always count on camping somewhere guaranteed to have a pool, playground, and camp store for cheap souvenir shopping.  Craig also made sure to teach his kids how to change a flat tire, drive a stick shift, and to always check the oil in your car.  Some of Dad's words of wisdom include “Nothing good ever happens after 2 am,” “Always have something green on your plate” and “The best things in life are free.”

Left to keep Craig's memory in their hearts are his wife, Carol Donahue, and his children, Andrea Butler and husband Thomas, Sarah Dobbins and husband Rick, Lauren Smith, and husband Matt, James Dobbins and wife Abigail.  Craig also had big love for his 11 grandchildren, Samuel, Makenzie, Rae, Will, Grey, John, Carlee-Jane, Rosemary, Katharine, Kaysie, and Rowan.  He will be deeply missed by his brother Gary Dobbins, and wife Angela, and his sister LuElla Byrd.

Craig and his family are thankful to all family, friends and medical staff of Kindred at Home who provided immeasurable care in Craig's recovery from his recent illness.  He was able to enjoy life until he suddenly passed.

In lieu of flowers, Craig would appreciate all who knew him to get outdoors, take a hike, see nature, and then eat a good meal.

A celebration of Craig's life will be Saturday, March 5, 2 to 4 PM, at 2075 Brightwood Drive, High Point, NC 27262.

Wright Funerals-Cremations is in charge of arrangements.
