Colleen Ivey Hartsoe, 92, of Pennybyrn at Maryfield, passed away Monday, June 12, 2017, at Hospice Home at High Point.

Colleen was born on May 19, 1925, in Pecos, Texas to Evelyn and Francis Ivey.  She grew up in South Texas, graduating from Corpus Christi High School and the University of Texas at Austin.  She did graduate work at Stanford University and received a master’s degree from the University of Maryland.  Colleen taught school in Corpus Christi, Montgomery County, MD, and Forsyth County, NC.

Colleen married Charles Hartsoe in 1951 and they lived in Winston-Salem, NC, for ten years prior to moving to High Point, NC.

She served on the Board of Developmental Day Care for many years as a volunteer treasurer and bookkeeper.  She was active in St. Mary’s Episcopal Church serving on the vestry and as president of the Church Women.  Colleen was also on the Diocesan Commissions of Ministry, of Communications, and of Women’s Issues.  She edited the Diocesan women’s newsletter and for twenty years the newsletter of St. Mary’s Church.  She also served as president of High Point Church Women United.  In 1981 Morehouse-Barlow Publishers issued her book Dear Daughter: Letters from Eve and Other Women of the Bible. The role of women in the church historically and up to the current time was a great interest of hers.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dr. Eileen Hartsoe, and by her husband, Charlie.  She is survived by a daughter Karen Grier (Bob) and a son Chuck Hartsoe, and five grandchildren.

Following a private funeral service, interment will be in St. Mary’s Columbarium.  Memorials may be directed to Hospice of the Piedmont, Mobile Meals, or St. Mary’s Episcopal Church.
