Archdale, NC

Mrs. Cleota Dowell Metzler, died peacefully at Hospice Home in High Point, NC on March 3, 2017, at the age of 102.

Cleota is survived by her son, Jerry Don Metzler (Dottie) of Phoenix, AZ; daughter, Glendynne Rae Askew  (Billy) of Archdale, NC; grandson, Norman Askew (Denise) of Trinity, NC; granddaughter, Donna Askew Ballas (John) of Charlotte, NC; great-grandchildren, Jared Askew, Seth Askew and Mariah Askew.  She was predeceased by four sisters and one brother.

Cleota was born on August 8, 1914, in Mishawaka, Indiana, to John and Grace Dowell.   She graduated from Mishawaka High School and attended the Phoenix Alumni Chapter reunions. In 2011, she was the oldest attending member.

Cleota enjoyed her work as a stenographer and was with the Arizona State Department of Health for thirteen years. Church was always an important part of her life.  She attended Trinity Methodist Church in Glendale, AZ and most recently Archdale United Methodist Church.  Cleota served in many capacities including being on the hospitality committee and United Methodist Women.  She was always busy being of service to others.

There will be a memorial service Monday, March 6, 2017, at 6pm at Archdale United Methodist Church in Archdale, NC.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
