Charles Thomas Foster

CHARLES THOMAS FOSTER, 80, of High Point passed away on June 18, 2020, at Hospice of Randolph County in Asheboro.

Born September 15, 1939, in High Point, he was the son of the late Charlie Branch and Verla Trotter Foster. Also preceding him in death were his wife, Harriett and sister, Ann Nicks.

After growing up in High Point, he lived several years in Hartsville, SC. He retired five years ago and returned to reside in High Point to be near his family.

Charles is survived by his son, Jeff (Heather); grandsons—Garrett, Evan and Seth, all of Archdale, NC; sisters Doris New of Apopka, FL and Louise Hendrix (T.R.) of High Point. Several nieces and nephews in CO, GA and FL.

Charles graduated from High Point High School in 1957. After working in Salisbury for two years, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1958 and was honorably discharged in 1962. He flew aboard the Lockhead P-2V Neptune airplane which was a land-based, long range anti-submarine aircraft. He served during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He loved to tell the story of being on the plane tracking the return of the Project Mercury spacecraft that carried the chimpanzee, Ham, into space and the anticipation of the chimp’s survival. To their delight, he arrived back safely.

Charles managed wholesale and retail car companies his entire career, eventually owning his own company.

The joy of his life was spending time with his family. He also loved spending time at Ocean Lakes in Myrtle Beach and following NASCAR.

Final arrangements are entrusted to Guil-Rand Funeral and Cremation Service.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Randolph County for COVID-19 care. We express our deepest appreciation to the Hospice staff for the special care given to Charles and his family.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
