Carolyn Bell Horne

Carolyn Bell Horne, 86, of High Point, NC peacefully transitioned into the presence of her Heavenly Father, Friday, September 15, 2023.   She was surrounded by family at the time she passed.

Carolyn was born on June 3, 1937, to Ryland and Sara Bell in Suffolk, VA.  She was a graduate of Suffolk High School in 1955.  On March 18, 1956, she wed Bobby Horne.  They honeymooned in Florida and began a wonderful love affair that lasted for 66 years until Bobby’s passing in February 2023.

Besides being a full-time mother, Carolyn held several employment positions before starting a career with JC Penny where she served in various capacities until her retirement in 2002.

She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Suffolk, VA for her entire life.  She served in various roles through the years. From the nursery, children’s ministry, numerous committees and as a lifelong choir member, she could be found attending, singing, or serving her Lord at FBC whenever she was able.  She was a member of the Carolyn Harris Sunday School Class.  She also served for Meals on Wheels in Suffolk.

She will be remembered as a loving sister, mother, grandmother and friend. Her love of music prompted her to provide music lessons to her grandchildren for as long as they pursued the craft.  She and Bobby were the grandkids fans in the latter years as they would travel often to watch them in sporting events, recitals, and graduations.  She and Bobby also enjoyed the family vacations at the beach and trips with the sisters on several cruises and 34 different states.

She is survived by her daughters, Jane Lehrbaum of Pompano Beach, FL and Karen Severs (Mike) of High Point, NC.  Sisters, Anne Robbins, Mary Alice Cobb and Katherine Ross.  She was Grammie to Beka Severs, Joe Severs, Hannah Swartz and Daniel Lehrbaum.

Carolyn was predeceased by her parents, Ryland and Sarah Bell, husband, Bobby Horne, and son-in-law, Bob Lehrbaum.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, October 8, 2023, in the High Point Chapel of Wright Funerals-Cremations.  A graveside service will be held at Cedar Hill in Suffolk, VA in November at a date and time to be determined.
