Carlton Roberson Johnson, 91, of Jamestown, passed away Monday, August 31, 2026, at his home.
Born May 11, 1935, in Chatham County, he was a son of the late William “Doc” Roberson Johnson and the late Mary Vandelia Buckner Johnson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Carlotta Johnson; granddaughter, Carly Griffin; former wife, Emma Dell Campbell Johnson Ritter; brothers, Bill Johnson (Lib) and Larry Johnson (Anne); sisters, Mary Kate Harris (Fred), and Claudine Gates; and twin siblings, May and Fay that died as infants.
Carl was born and raised in Sanford, NC and then moved to the High Point/Jamestown area. He retired from the North Carolina Highway Patrol after 32 years of service and then the Guilford County Sheriffs Department with 29 years of service. He was a Scottish Rite Master FreeMason and a Shriner. He served in the United States Army stationed in Germany and was Honorably Discharged with rank of E4. He was active in community service including Jaycees, and was strong in his faith and his love of his family. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid antique car enthusiast. He was an active member and president of Furnitureland Car Club, a judge for car shows, and was often in one of his vehicles for local parades.
Those left to cherish his memory: son, Keith Johnson and wife Melanie; daughter, Carla Griffin and husband Kirk; grandchildren, Cody Griffin and wife Katie, Ashley Johnson, and Andrew Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
Funeral service will be 12:00 PM Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Mitchell’s Grove Methodist Church; 3511 M.L.K. Jr Dr, High Point, NC 27260; with the Rev. Dr. Tim Porter officiating.
The family will receive friends 11:00-11:45AM Saturday prior to the service at the church.
Graveside service will be 3:00PM Saturday, at Asbury United Methodist Church; 560 Wade Bright Rd., Sanford, NC 27330.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Mitchell’s Grove MC, or to Asbury UMC.
