Listen to Obituary

Carlos Monroe White, 84, of Midway, passed peacefully into the Presence of The Lord on September 25, 2025. He was born on the Family Farm, the son of Avery Samuel and Grace Clodfelter White.

He is survived by his wife Joyce White; only living sister, Anita Mahaffey; great- nephew/ "son", James (Latonya) Rosdhal; beloved nieces, Robin (Tony) Rosdhal and Marsha (James) Mayberry; four great- nephews, and two great-nieces. His great- great-nephew “Little James” held a special place in his heart. Carlos was preceded in death by his wife Julie, his parents, and infant sister.

Carlos graduated from North Davidson class of ’59 and treasured his relationships with classmates, including his roles on the Class Reunion Committee and that of “Class Chaplain.”

He graduated from Western Carolina at Cullowhee in ROTC and served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army. He worked for the State of Virginia Emergency Services before being called to ministry as a pastor. Then, he went on to graduate from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Among his most satisfying life experiences were the three years he spent at Peninsula Bible Church in Palo Alto California where he was mentored by Ray Stedman and developed relationships that have sustained him all the years since.

The activities he enjoyed most since his return to Midway in the mid-80’s, were pastoring a small house church, conducting home Bible studies, mentoring men and women in the study and application of God’s Word, and the production of a film series on church leadership.

He also enjoyed “tending The Lord’s Garden” on the family farm and restoring it to an active strawberry and produce farm with his great nephew/”son” James prior to his first stroke in June of 2024.

Always a car man, he was an avid collector of Classic T-birds, a pursuit that gave him much joy in his final years.
