The family members and friends are deeply saddened by the passing of Blenda Reed Kates on February 14, 2021. She and her twin sister, Lenda, were a December 2, 1941 surprise! The twins were the family’s joy. The siblings enjoyed the fellowship of family, relatives, neighbors, and friends at their Mother’s open table. Blenda attended local schools and was an employee of Wesleyan Arms Retirement Center in High Point, NC. She had an outgoing, adventurous personality. She continued friendships with classmates and co-workers. In retirement she enjoyed creative hobbies.
She was predeceased by her parents Owen Alexander Kates, who served in World War II, Statesville, NC; and Dora (Brown) Yokley Kates, Greeneville TN; sister Freda Yokley Ward, Trinity, NC; and her niece, Meredith Rawley, Atlanta, GA. Blenda is survived by her twin sister, Lenda Ray Kates, High Point. NC; her brother, John Franklin Kates (Missie), Midlothian, VA; sister, Shirley Yokley Rawley (Earl Crow), Winston Salem, NC; and her nieces, Gail Ward Moore (Ken) and family, Jasper,GA; Rickey O’Connor, Canton, GA, her nephew, David A. Rawley, III, Winston Salem, NC and a family friend, David Rawley, Jr.
We are grateful for the time we shared as a family. We pray that the Spirit of peace and comfort be with us as we honor and commit our departed loved one, Blenda, to heavenly care. “And God has given us his Spirit as proof that we live in him and he in us,” I John 4:13. A family Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to a Food Bank of choice.
