Heaven received another angel on Wednesday, August 23, 2017. Betty Jo Smith, 72, of High Point, passed away at Hospice Home at High Point.

Born July 8, 1945, in Stuart, VA, she was a daughter of the late Margaret Sutphin Smith. Mrs. Smith was a retired sewer with Clyde Pearson Furniture and a member of Charity Baptist Church. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother who will be missed by all.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her beloved husband of fifty-three years, Roger W. Smith, Sr. of the home; son, Roger W. Smith, Jr; daughters, Angela Updegrove, and Patty Robinson; brothers, Delbert Smith, Bobby Meris, Freddy Meris, John Meris, Kenny Meris, and George Meris; sisters, Lona Mae Risen, Teresa Huffman, and Brenda McCannon; grandchildren, Geraldine Smith, Christina Covington, Zach Blair, Seth Blair, Jordan Sapp, Jacob Smith, Jordan Kofroth, and Joshua Kofroth; great-grandchildren, Makaela Robinson, Caleb Covington, Ryan Smith, Jaden Covington, and Kaitlyn Covington.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Larry Meris, Billy Meris, Randy Meris, and Jerry Meris; and sister, Debra Meris.

Memorial services will be conducted at 5:00 PM Sunday, August 27, 2017, at Charity Baptist Church with Rev. Elton Welborn officiating.
