Remembering Bette G. Krause, born September 19, 1933, and passed away November 30, 2024.
She was born in Buffalo, New York, the daughter of Harold Green and Beatrice Gates Green. Bette moved to Cheverly in her teen years, as Harold was one of the founding members of the CIA working in the early Washington D.C office. Bette also had a brother Kirk, who preceded her in death.
Bette attended the University of Maryland pursuing an education degree and was an active member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. It was there that she met the love of her life, Sam Krause, a scrappy entrepreneur, selling sandwiches at the dorms after classes. Sam and Bette were married in September of 1955, and began their long, successful adventure together that would include military and wartime service. Traveling all over the world from Florida to Germany to England, Georgia, Vietnam and much more. Along the way they would have three kids, Lynn, Leann, and Jack. During the Military years, Bette was busy as a full-time mother, preschool teacher for 20 years and a hostess extraordinaire.
Bette and Sam settled in the Bermuda Run community in 1985, when Sam joined Lentz Distribution. There, Bette was an active and engaged member of the community, where she volunteered time in the “lunch buddies” program in the public schools, an active member of Bermuda Run Garden Club, and the stitch group. She and Sam were founding member of St. Clements Episcopal church and active in many committees.
Sam and Bette came to River Landing in 2014 where they spent their final years. There she helped establish the garden club and was a very active wreath maker putting holiday and seasonal celebrations on the doors of many of her neighbors. On nice days, Bette could be seen outside of Muirfield in her turquoise sun hat and colorful shorts looking for sunny spots to read. Bette was so grateful for the love and the friendship of the River Landing community and staff. For those who knew Bette, they know she had a great sense of humor, and she kept it up right to the very last days, changing our tears to laughter.
Bette is survived by her children Lynn (Dyke), Jack (Kia) and Leann (Mike), grandchildren Jessica, Travis, Katie, Ranger, Taylor, Jordon, Lauren, Chris, Erik, Elizabeth, Jason, and great-grandchildren Kav, Jack, Elliot and Georgia. Our family is so grateful for the love and care that River Landing and especially the Pebble Beach staff showed her.
A private celebration of Bette’s life will be held at River Landing.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the River Landing “Employee Appreciation Fund”.
Wright Funerals-Cremations, High Point, is in charge of arrangements.
