Betsy Marie (Baker) Cumby

Betsy Marie Baker Cumby, 93, of Trinity, passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at High Point Medical Center.

Born November 22, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Ernest Baker and the late Virgie Baker. Betsy was an English teacher and librarian in the Guilford County Schools until her retirement. She was a dedicated member of the United Methodist Women and served in leadership for both the Lexington District and the Western North Carolina Conference. She also played the piano and organ for fifty years at Hopewell United Methodist Church. Betsy was well known for her impersonation of Minnie Pearl at special events.

She is survived by nephews, Billy Wilkes, Tommy Cumby, and Ben Cumby; sister Ernestine Wilkes; great-nieces, Jordan Gavitt and husband Kyle, and Shelley Wilkes, great-great nephews, Will, Ben, Jack, and Andy Gavitt.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Brown Cumby in 2022.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday, September 6, 2024, at Hopewell United Methodist Church with Pastor Toni Ruth Smith, Pastor Ken Spencer, and Pastor Daniel Han officiating.

The family will visit with friends following the service.
