Benny Harward, Jr

Ashwell Bennett “Benny” Harward Jr., 73, of Clemmons, North Carolina, peacefully passed away on October 27th, 2021 surrounded by his family.

Benny was born to Ashwell and Eleanor Harward on November 3rd, 1947 in Durham, North Carolina.  After Benny graduated from Hoke County High School in 1966, he pursued a degree in history at Western Carolina University, where he was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity.

Benny met his wife, Joyce Bunch in 1973 at a gathering amongst friends in Cary, North Carolina.  They married less than a year later on March 23rd, 1974 and went on to have 3 children, Elizabeth, Lauren, and John.

Benny worked most of his life leading up until his death, as his type A personality did not let him sit for long.  Even still, he made time to make sure to spend time with family and his many friends, including going to ball games and dance recitals for his children and grandchildren.

Benny was predeceased by his mother and father.  He is survived by his wife Joyce Harward, his three children, Elizabeth Frasher and husband Jonathan, Lauren Hord and husband Erik, and his son, John Harward and his fiancé Claire Webb.  He is also survived by his grandchildren, Brynn, Brennan, Paige, and Emma Grace, as well as his sister, Mary Nell Page.  Services will be held at Pinedale Christian Church on Monday, November 1st at 1:00pm and a reception for visitation will follow.  Any memorial gifts may be made to Pinedale Christian Church for the missions fund, another one of Benny’s passions.
