Annette Young Thomas, 84, of High Point, NC, passed away peacefully July 16, 2025, leaving behind a rich legacy of family, education, and service. She was born January 19, 1941, to the late Keyston and Delores Young, of Mebane NC.
Annette is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband of 61 years, Joe Hanford Thomas, and her four cherished daughters, Martha Hendrix (Chris) of Charlotte NC, Pamela Glascock (Ronald “Bo”) of Wesley Chapel NC, Gena Peloquin (Jason) of Greensboro NC, and Evelin Hunsucker (Gary “Luke”) of Trinity NC. She was a proud grandmother to nine grandchildren and five great-granddaughters, with one great-grandson on the way.
She is also survived by her twin sister, Jannette Young King (Melvin), sister Nancy Young Caison (Don, deceased), sister Gloria Young Hamilton (Mike), brother Tommy Young (Peggy, deceased), and sister-in-law Judith Young (Keyston Jr. “Buddy”, deceased).
Annette dedicated her life to education and leadership, earning her Bachelor of Arts from High Point University and three Master of Education degrees from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She also completed certifications in reading, early childhood education, social studies, and administration from UNC-Chapel Hill and Duke University, among others.
Her career in education spanned 37 years, during which she taught students from elementary through high school, served as a principal in Guilford County, and worked as an adjunct professor at High Point University and Appalachian State University. She also mentored future educators as a Supervisor of Student Teachers and contributed her expertise as a member and Chair of the Interview and Curriculum teams, and as a consultant for new teachers and principals.
Annette was an active leader in professional organizations, holding numerous positions, including State President and District V Vice President of Alpha Delta Kappa. She was also a dedicated member of Phi Delta Kappa, Delta Kappa Gamma, and the International Reading Association.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Green Street Baptist Church with Dr. Jeff Dowdy and Rev. C.W. Moss officiating. Burial will follow at Floral Garden Park Cemetery.
The family will visit with friends from 9:30 AM until 10:45 AM prior to the service.
