J. Kirby Broughton

J. Kirby Broughton, 92, of Colfax, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at River Landing at Sandy Ridge.

Born January 9, 1932, in Salisbury, he was the son of the late Chalmers Broughton and the late Margie Broughton.  Kirby attended public schools in Rowan County,  NC State University, and Wake Forest University.  He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.  Kirby was an engineer for AT&T and Lucent Technologies for almost forty years.  He was active in community services and the Telephones Pioneers and was president of the Guilford Council, 2nd elder and was also president of the Life Member Club after retirement.  He was a member of Community in Christ Presbyterian Church, served on the Board of Directors of the Presbyterian Counseling Center.  He was a member of Forest Oaks Country Club, where he served on the Board of Governors, and enjoyed playing golf with many dear friends.

He is survived by his companion, Agnes Spagnolo; sons, Jeff Broughton and wife Deane of Oak Island, Steve Broughton and his wife, Melanie of Matthews, and Bo Broughton and wife Angie of Greensboro; seven grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-seven years, Becky Julian Broughton, sister, Geri Spear of Myrtle Beach; a brother, Tal Broughton and wife Mary Virginia of Roanoak, VA.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 16, 2024, at Community in Christ Presbyterian Church with Rev. Bryan McFarland officiating.

The family will visit with friends following the service.

Memorials may be made to Community in Christ Presbyterian Church or Parkinsons Foundation.
