Genene Harrold

Betty Genene Hamby Harrold, 85, of High Point, passed away Thursday, December 7, 2023, at her home.

Born April 11, 1938, in Caldwell County, she was a daughter of the late Clyde James Hamby and the late Ruby Younce Hamby. Genene was a member of Rich Fork Baptist church, where she was active in the Ladies Auxiliary. She pursued lifelong learning and continuing education, obtaining her RN in 1981 through Davidson County Community College. Genene worked with Guilford County Mental Health and was a house parent of Mills Home at Baptist Children’s Home. She cared for over one hundred children, and she forged many lifetime relationships with the children. Genene was a loving wife, mother, devoted grandmother, and modeled a life of Christian service.

She is survived by her husband, James Wade Harrold of the home; sons, Gregory Harrold and wife Karen of Georgia, Eric Harrold and wife Wendy Hill of Thomasville, and Tommy Harrold and wife Susie of High Point; brothers, Jim Hamby and wife Mary of Hudson, and Gary Hamby and wife Sylvia of Hudson; sister-in-law, Lydia Hamby of Hudson; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and special friends, Connie Duncan and Loretta Usher.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Dennis Hamby.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at Rich Fork Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Hamby officiating. Burial will follow in Rich Fork Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 1:45 PM prior to the service.
