Barbara Ann Britton, 84, of Greensboro passed away peacefully on the morning of November 21st with her daughter at her side. The tranquil sounds of harp music filled the halls of Beacon Place Hospice as she transitioned from her earthly journey.
Born May 5, 1939 in Warrenton, Barbara was the daughter of the late Clarence Chamblee Britton and the late Margaret Kidd. Growing up, she attended the Warrenton Baptist Church where she sang in the choir as a teenager and graduated from John Graham High School in 1956.
She attended Women’s College (now University of North Carolina at Greensboro) before joining the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction as a library scientist, information specialist, technical writer and editor. Dedicated to education and lifelong learning, she often shared her love of books by helping people of all ages to learn to read.
Upon her retirement, she studied art history and became a docent at the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh. She found joy in sharing her passion for art with museum visitors.
An avid storyteller, she recently penned her memoir, The Drugstore Chronicles. This journal featured nostalgic tales of growing up in the 1940s where the drugstore played an integral part of her everyday life. She recounted magical memories of laughing with friends, going to the movies and rubbing elbows with the North Carolina Symphony when they were stranded after a concert during a snowstorm.
Mother, friend, lover of books and movies, Barbara is survived by her daughter, Tracy Crevar Warren and son-in-law, Ronald Warren of Switzerland.
Wright Funerals-Cremations, High Point is in charge of arrangements.
