Raymond William Schwab, born on March 9, 1930, in Queens, New York, passed away at age 88 on October 28, 2018, in Jamestown, North Carolina.

Raymond spent his childhood in College Point, NY, where he was an active member of the local Boy Scout troop. In 1947, he was honored to be selected to represent New York City at the Boy Scout World Jamboree in Moisson, France. Raymond received a Bachelors of Civil Engineering from The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in 1952. From 1952 to 1955, Raymond served with the Navy Civil Engineer Corp in Newport and Davisville, RI and continued to serve with the Navy Reserve until 1965. Raymond founded Raymond W. Schwab Associates, Inc., in South Kingstown, RI in 1961, and ultimately received professional engineering licenses in 48 states. He enjoyed sharing his professional expertise through teaching at Roger Williams College and was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the National Society of Professional Engineers, the Society of American Military Engineers, and the Construction Specifications Institute. Raymond served on the Board of Trustees for the South County Hospital and was a member of the South Kingstown Chamber of Commerce. In 1961 he joined the South Kingstown chapter of the International Lions Clubs and continued to be an active member of the organization after relocating to Jamestown, NC in 2009, where he was also involved with the Jamestown Civitan Service Club.

Raymond was the loving husband of Carolyn Schwab and was preceded in death by his stepdaughter, Melissa Christ. Raymond is survived by his children, Deborah Schwab and husband Iver Franzen, Susan Gordon and husband William Gordon, and Pamela Schwab and husband Brent Garlow; grandchildren, Elizabeth Caswell and husband Jason Caswell, and James Gordon and wife Alison Gordon; and great-grandchildren, Sydney Caswell, Caleb Caswell, and Chase Caswell.
