Leonard Devaney, Jr. passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2019, at Hospice Home in High Point. A mass and interment will be conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 17, 2019, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Greensboro.
Len was born on October 11, 1932, in Bayonne, New Jersey to the late Leonard R. Devaney, Sr. and Mary (Petrisko) Devaney. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Dorothy Devaney and Anne June Vetter and his loving wife, Catherine Devaney. Surviving are his 5 children, Lynn Jenkins of Stokesdale NC, Leonard Devaney III (Darlene) of Sitka Alaska, Lauri Harlan (John) of Palmer Alaska, Lisa Jaime Kimrey (Joe) of Charlotte NC, Leslie Griffin (David) of Reidsville NC, 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and his brother, Larry Devaney of New Jersey.
Len was a graduate of Seton Hall University and Wake Forest University.
He served in the US Army during the Korean War as a Rocket Propellant Specialist. He joined AT&T in 1957 where he worked as an engineer for 37 years.
He was active in his community. In Bridgewater, NJ he was a charter member of the Jaycees and a Commissioner of Parks and Recreation. He was a charter member of St. Paul the Apostle Church in Greensboro, NC, a member of the Elks Club, Ancient Order of the Hibernians, Telephone Pioneers of America and Mensa.
Over the years, Len enjoyed trout fishing, ballroom dancing and travel. He had a quick wit and loved to laugh.
He loved life and his grandchildren.
He believed in God.
