Lieutenant Commander Gilbert Martin Lutz, USN, Retired, 80, of Greensboro, passed away Saturday, July 27, 2019, at Hospice Home at High Point.
Born December 2, 1938, in Etna, Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late George P. Lutz and the late Mathilde Yester Lutz. Commander Lutz served in the US Navy retiring following twenty years of service. He earned the Bronze Star, Joint Services Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Combat Action Medal, National Defense Medal, Philippine Presidential Unit Citation, and the Navy Achievement Medal. Following his military service, he was an administrator of the Small Business Administration.
Commander Lutz, is survived by his wife of twenty-one years, Janet Szambelan Lutz of the home; sons, Christopher Lutz and wife Maria, and David Lutz and wife Heather; Stephanie Stephens; brothers, George Lutz and wife Rosalyn, Father Gerald Lutz; and Gregory Lutz; sister, Nancy Feineigle and husband Bill; and five grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Sister Ida Mary Lutz.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 31, 2019, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Burial will be in Salisbury National Cemetery with full military honors.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM prior to the service at the church.
