Dorothy McMichael Oliver
Dorothy Louise McMichael Oliver, 94, of Greensboro, North Carolina, died Tuesday, October 29, 2019. She was born to Leila Emma Dawson and Willis Jackson “James” McMichael on October 5, 1925, in Autauga County, Alabama, and married Edward Eugene Oliver in 1947 in Montgomery, Alabama. Their marriage lasted 52 years until Gene’s death.
She earned her baccalaureate degree from the University of Cincinnati and her doctorate in education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and had a distinguished teaching career in public schools and community colleges in Greenville, South Carolina and Guilford County North Carolina. She was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church of High Point and of NAMI Guilford.
She is survived by sons J. Michael Oliver (Janet) of Greensboro and Charles Edward Oliver of Columbus, Georgia, and three grandsons Joseph L., Lauren M. and Wm. Bret, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Gene and by her brother Pelham “Jack” McMichael, sister Emily Belle Scott and half-brother Wilbur Willis McMichael. She will be laid to rest with her husband at the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Columbarium in High Point.
